Welcome to my site! We are glad you could stop by. This page is a work in progress right now. You are more than welcome to leave your comments of what you would like us to post about, soap and other products related to the making, or uses of products we put into soap, like essential oils for instance. I wanted to make a page were people could ask questions about handmade soap and what goes into it, how it is made and why we make combinations the way we do. Why we insist you use a soap dish, why certain soaps are ready to use and others take a month before you can use them. Any question you have, if I can’t answer it, I will find the answer for you. I also wanted to include my life because it has shaped who I am and that is reflected in my soap. If you get to know me, you will see my personality in my soap. For instance, our Monkey Farts Poop shaped soap. I just love it! It’s funny! My youngest grandchild got a real kick out of it and we just laughed about it. He just giggled and giggled that Mimi made poop soap. So we had a great time and it’s a memory I wouldn’t trade for the world! I have named a soap after each of my grandchildren, picking the fragrance from their personality and what I thought they would be like when they grew up. we also have a line named after my youngest daughter “Ali”. So you see, my soap and my life are both very much intertwined into one.

As a mother of four and grandmother of twelve, I guess I have a lot to say about things, not that I will be right, but I have had a lot of practice at life. From raising three little girls and then behind them, throw a monkey in the wrench, and raise a little boy ten years later. Now that was a challenge.Roger Allen I’ve been married for almost 40 years, and I’m 56 years old. Did you do the math really fast? Yes, we got married at 16. So life has been interesting to say the least, and now the kids are grown and they are busy with their kids making their own wonderful lives. So now we are empty nesters (loving it) and I make soap.

Making soap is therapy to me a lot of the time. I get busy making it and the world and all my problems seem to disappear for a while. You really have to pay attention to what you are doing. You are working with a recipe that has to be exact, everything has to be weighed out and you are working with toxic chemicals (lye). Lye is very dangerous. My sister thought she would try to make soap from scratch, from the oils, and she did not have any white vinegar on hand  to neutralize the lye if it got on her skin. She tripped while making the soap and it spilled down her arm. It ended up eating her skin away almost down to her bone! She had a terrible infection because it was an open wound. It was an awful mess and she almost lost her arm! She did not do her research ahead of time and just went ahead and got a recipe off of the internet that had no warnings on it about the lye and no information about white vinegar. I’m a type A personality, so I read and read before I start something like making soap. I’m a direction reader. My husband laughs at me because whenever we get a box of something that needs to be put together or needs to be operated, I get the directions out and read them from cover to cover first. He starts building while I’m reading. We work well together that way.

They say “Never make soap when your angry.” And sometimes that is true. It shows up in your bars. If your upset or angry the colors you choose will be dark and dreary, you make more mistakes, and the fragrances you choose tend to be more on the woodsy, musky side. So if you’re in a terrible mood, take a nap first, go for a walk, take a shower and then make soap! You’ll be so happy you did!

Hang around and read my blog if you like. My life has taken a real turn this past 7 months. I was diagnosed with lung cancer and bone cancer last August. I’m a fighter! This blog is helping me to write down how this terrible disease has affected my life, family, my business and my mental and physical well-being.

As Scarlett O’Hara said,”After all, tomorrow is another day.”  And yes it is.

  1. I’m impressed, I need to say. Actually rarely do I encounter a blog that’s both educative and entertaining, and let me inform you, you may have hit the nail on the head. Your concept is excellent; the problem is one thing that not sufficient persons are speaking intelligently about. I’m very comfortable that I stumbled across this in my seek for one thing referring to this.

    1. Thank you, I will do my best. I didn’t want to be long winded and was afraid I would get that way, but apparently not. I’ll try to write more, I’m still in the learning faze of WordPress if you haven’t noticed and writing is a newbie for me also. So bear with me on the learning curve 🙂
